OK, so we went to a Miley Cyrus concert. Don't be hating on us for it. She was playing one night only, right in the MGM so we HAD to go. They say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, so whatever. What a great opener for the week. It really fired us up and got us on a creative track.
The week started well with a wonderful party hosted by Canon at the brand new Hakkasan club. What a night of food, networking and dancing! (come on, its business, we had to).
Morning Starbucks in hand by 7:30, we headed to the conference area and got down to work with lots of seminars and tons of knowledge being absorbed. We learned from so many accomplished award-winning photographers. Sandy Puc (again, just can't get enough of that girl.), Tamara Lackey, Yervant, Dixie Dixon & Bambi Cantrell to name a few. Then off to the trade show with over 300 vendors where we picked our new product lines and were able to see, touch and experience many new things.
One of our highlights was sitting down at an early seminar and we spot a young guy with a guitar. Well, for anyone who remembers, back last fall Kelly was having a very hard time with Julia attending full time school in Sept. So as a documentor, I documented. I took her to a field where she could be in nature and comfortable and I had her journal her feelings. (Journaling is something she has done with the kids since the day Julia was born). If you missed the video, you can catch it here. Well, I searched hours for the right music. Our music is all licensed through Triple Scoop Music. As artists, we believe that we must support other artists and pay them for their hard work. I finally found the right song called, "We Grow" by Tyler Stenson. You can check him out here. Well, long story short, it was Tyler on stage at WPPI and he
played that song LIVE that morning. Feelings came flooding back and when Kelly approached
him afterwards, it was an emotional moment as she shared the video with him. We had a great
talk, and several discussions later, we parted ways with much gratitude that we were able to
connect with him.
Yes, we do enjoy ourselves when we go, but it is because we are immersed in such a great community
there. Meeting others who love to capture moments as much as we do, and will sit up with us all night and
discuss gear, experiences, etc. It is not based on how to get more money for what we do. It is more
geared towards how we can serve our clients better doing something which we absolutely love.
To any of our photog friends, we highly recommend this experience.
Can't wait for next year!
Marnie & Kelly
