Pam & John - Engagement

It was a blustery cold day, but that didn't stop John from proposing to his sweetheart. He set the scene at the gazebo in old historic Niagara-on-the-lake. The setting was perfect, and Pam was ecstatic. We are so excited to be capturing their wedding next year. They make a great couple with a sense of humour that will keep you on your toes! If their engagement session is any indication of how much fun we will be having at the wedding, we better hang on for a wild ride! Congrats guys.

Saturday morning sunshine

This little sweetheart has been coming to our studio for a while now and we have been honoured to be able to capture her as she grows. She is an angel and she always brightens our day. This time we were fortunate enough to photograph the family as well and it all came together wonderfully. Moving from the studio to the great outdoors on a beautiful Saturday morning to finish the shoot was perfect.

Best Friends in Love - Sebb & Amanda

You would think from looking at the passion in this shoot that it was an engagement session. Well, guess again. This beautiful couple has been married for a while now and can still kick up the heat in their photos. I have to say I was quite envious at how they could look at each other like they were seeing each other  for the first time. Yes, this shoot was a celebration of love gone “right” for a refreshing reminder of what is great about marrying your best friend.

Fantastic Trends for 2011 weddings

Beautiful vintage lace
We absolutely love our job! Whats not to like? We have the best clients and are honoured to have the the pleasure of capturing and preserving a bride and grooms most romantic event of their lives. We are a mother and daughter photography team and we shoot fabulous weddings for fantastic people. Check out some of the trends we have noticed for the 2011 season...

Vintage glamour-If you have been anywhere near media in the last few months, the wedding of the year definitely belongs to Will and Kate. From Kate’s beautiful Chantilly lace bodice to the sprig of myrtle directly passed down from Queen Victorias very own bouquet. Vintage glamour and Hollywood drama is IN! As the fashion world trends this way, so does the bridal world. From the detail shots to the posing, our business has definitely been mirroring the runway and creating Fashion inspired weddings.

Heirloom treasures

First look – Wedding photography has definitely moved away from the traditional to a more relaxed romantic photojournalism with a touch of fashion. Brides are no longer looking for the way things were done in the past and are deciding to blaze their own trail. Remember when superstition dictated that it was bad luck for the groom to see the bride on their wedding day until the ceremony? Not the case any more. For some couples they are opting for the more contemporary “First Look”. This is a great opportunity for the photographer. The first look takes place just before the ceremony in a private location. The purpose is to allow the couple a time where they can drink in the magic and romanticism of how they arrived at this beautiful moment and to dispel nerves often heightened by not seeing each other. This way, they can share the time alone as possibly the only private time they will share in that day.
Painted pumpkins for centerpieces
Eco/green weddings – Maybe its due to the recession or possibly our heightened awareness of the world we live in, but brides are definitely trending towards reduce-reuse-recycle. Green weddings are in! Right down to reusing wedding gowns and renting flowers. As photographers we are seeing the incorporation of family owned heirlooms and the desire to create new heirlooms for generations to come!
Same day slideshow – Well, maybe not such a new trend but it is definitely something that our couples still ask for. We are living in a time of social media with instant result. The same day slide show gives the bride and groom the opportunity to see their guests’ reactions to their memories from the day. It is always a crowd pleaser and our way as photographers for getting great feedback for upcoming trends.

Remember that ultimately it is your special day, and it does not belong to anyone else. Follow your heart and you will have no regrets. We could go on and on with our ever changing industry. If you would like to discuss any more trends, please feel free to contact us at info@makstudioimages.com

Midwifery inspiration + Creative Mom = beautiful memories

When I found out we were expecting baby #2 last summer my first thought was that I have to get to the midwives right away!  I had heard such wonderful things about them and wanted the opportunity to experience it for myself.

We were welcomed with open arms into the Renaissance Midwifery here in Welland.  They were so caring with much thought going into each appointment.  Their beautiful building is nestled in the downtown area with tons of warm and inviting character.

My mom must have been inspired by the midwives as she came up with a grecian/renaissance idea for one of my maternity sessions.  We had a lot of fun doing that session. We even wrapped up my 2yr old daughter toga style so she could join in the fun!  We showed it to the midwives and they thought it was great, so they decided the print could find a home in the lounge area of the office.

We were very happy and delighted to be able to become a part of their space!  Here is the picture that is currently on display.  I totally recommend the Renaissance Midwifery to any of you moms to be. Their level of care is second to none.

Have a great week and enjoy the wonderful summer weather!

New Life + Twice the fun = Twin girls Miss M & K

They say great things come in small packages, and I’d have to agree!

There were 2 beautiful newborn baby girls in our studio, and we couldn’t have been more excited!  They  just laid quietly taking in the atmosphere and snuggling with each other. We took a few hours carefully placing them and grabbing some great shots just watching them drift in and out of sleep.

Miss K would fall asleep then Miss M would wiggle around and put an arm around her as to say "wake up its time to play"!  We wish them, their great parents and big brother all the happiness in the world and thank them for sharing their blessings with us.

Exciting entertainment + Great Fun = Niagara Kidsapalooza

Collegiate Highschool in St.Catharines is a beautiful school with a rich history and was the perfect venue for the Niagara Kidsapalooza event for Pathstone mental health this past Saturday.

The event was buzzing with lots of excited children as they ran around getting their faces painted and enjoying a nice BBQ lunch on a beautiful day.

Their was lots of great vendor booths set up with tons of helpful information and resources supporting the mission of Pathstone to improve the quality of life for those dealing with mental health problems and illness.

Kim Black poured her heart and soul into this event, which explained its overwhelming success. I think I speak for everyone when I say it was a great event I was pleased to attend.

Their was a handful of wonderful volunteers as well that worked non-stop.

All the vendors and companies were great with donating their time and prizes for the raffle tickets to raise money.

Check it out!
